PSC inspection - what they really look for in 2025

As a Captain who has been through dozens of PSC inspections across Tokyo MOU, Paris MOU, and Indian Ocean MOU regions, here's what inspectors are really focusing on in 2025:

**Top Priority Areas:**
1. Cyber security management in SMS (new IMO requirement)
2. BWMS operation and record keeping
3. ECDIS - chart updates, familiarization records
4. Work-rest hour records (they cross-reference with logbooks now)
5. Enclosed space entry procedures and rescue drills

**Common Deficiency Areas:**
- Fire doors not self-closing properly
- Lifeboat on-load release gear maintenance
- SOPEP equipment not as per plan
- Galley hygiene (they always check)
- Navigation light certificates expired

**Pro Tips:**
- Have your ISM certificates readily accessible
- Brief crew before arrival - everyone should know their muster duties
- Engine room bilges clean
- All alarms tested and documented

Stay prepared and you'll have smooth inspections. Questions welcome.
