Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026 · These terms apply to everyone who uses Shiptionary.com.
Welcome to Shiptionary (the "Service", "we", "us"). By accessing or using this site you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who can use Shiptionary
The Service is intended for maritime professionals (seafarers, ship owners, charterers, shore staff) and members of the public interested in shipping. You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
2. Accounts
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You must provide accurate information when registering. Reviewer accounts may be asked to verify their maritime experience.
- One person, one account. Don't create accounts for fictional people, organisations you don't represent, or to evade a suspension.
3. Reviews and user content
- Reviews must reflect your own genuine first-hand experience with the ship, port, or company.
- Do not name specific individuals (officers, crew, agents). Criticise the vessel or the operator, not the person.
- Do not post content that is defamatory, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or that infringes third-party rights.
- Do not post confidential commercial information, technical specifications under NDA, voyage routing data that could endanger security, or anything classified as ITAR / dual-use.
- Every review goes through our admin moderation queue and may be edited for clarity, redacted to remove personal data, or rejected if it violates these terms.
- By submitting content you grant Shiptionary a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to host, reproduce, translate, and display it in connection with the Service.
4. Acceptable use
When using the Service you agree not to:
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-export content without our written permission.
- Use automated means (bots, scripts) to interact with the site.
- Attempt to access, probe, or test the vulnerability of our systems.
- Submit fake reviews, manipulate ratings, or run incentivised review schemes.
- Impersonate another person or organisation.
- Re-publish content from the Service on competing review platforms without permission.
5. Disclaimer and limits of liability
Reviews on Shiptionary represent the personal experiences and opinions of their authors. We verify reviewer identity through email and self-declaration, but the underlying facts in reviews are not independently verified. We do not endorse, certify, or guarantee the accuracy of any review. To the maximum extent allowed by law, Shiptionary is provided "as is" and we exclude all warranties.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
6. Takedown and right of reply
Subjects of reviews (ship owners, manning agents) may submit a takedown request via our Takedown Policy if a review breaches these terms. We also offer a right of reply for verified company representatives.
7. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms, with or without notice. You may delete your account at any time by contacting support@shiptionary.com.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or a banner on the Service. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
